Vermi-Compost: A solution for organic urban waste

Vermi-Compost: A solution for organic urban waste
-Jaspreet Singh Anand

To solve the garbage menace to some extent in metropolitan, we all gotta put our hands together and contribute towards.

The main point is to segregate the organic and other waste in different bins. The earthworms(special species) have a wonderful miracle in their digestive system. They eat up the food and give a nitrogen rich and nutrient full excreta. The excreta is homogeneous, finely graded and a perfect manure for plants and fields. The organic waste includes, kitchen waste, paper, garden waste, non-spicy cooked food etc. It takes about 30 days, for worms to degrade the food if given in small pieces to them.

This whole process of making manure is called vermicompost.

For stats our organic waste constitutes 30% of total waste which can totally be reduced to ZERO and converted into a 100% useful product there and then it is generated.
